Blood Vessels Through 3 D Printer
Research on growing tissue and organs in the laboratory has been on for a long time. Five Fraunhofer institutes, joined hands in 2009 to come up with biocompatible artificial blood vessels. The results and latest on the issue shall be exhibited at the Biotechnica Fair at Hannover, Germany on October 11-13.
The problem to build structures such as capillary vessels that are so small and complex has been resolved by production engineering. Rapid prototyping makes it possible to build work pieces specifically according to any complex 3 D model. The scientists at Fraunhofer are using the 3 D printing technology established in rapid prototyping and multi photon polymerization developed in polymer science.
