Temporary Structure - Hexayurt Geodesic Dome
The hexayurt, is a geodesic dome, that is sturdy, cost effective temporary shelter. The easy to built structure uses materials like plywood, insulation, plastic, cardboard etc. The hexayurt is made from a 8 ft by 8ft isosceles triangle.
The most common place to see hexayurts is at the Burning Man festival. The first one built in 2003, and was a little bigger than a tent. The sizes now vary from 50 to 500 square feet. Burning Man is a week long annual event held in the Black Rock Desert. Northern Nevada, USA. The event starts on the Monday and ends on the American Labor Day holiday. It takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy on Saturday evening.
The building stays relatively cool in the desert. The shiny surface of the hexayurt reflects sun heat. Fixing of pump sprays, swamp coolers and air conditioner make living quite comfortable.
