Michael Thompson and James Tully,two British designers, have designed a fully wooden bike.The design is called “SplinterBike”,which the designer claim shall achieve a speed of 31 MPH. The SplinterBike does not have a single piece of metal,rubber or plastic. The axles are made of ekki wood. The frame, wheels and cogs are of birch wood, and the bearings are of ironwood. The pedals and handlebars have been created from a broom handle.It has 4:1 gear ratio. The traditional chain has been replaced with a pair of 128 tooth cogs that link the pedals to the rear wheel. An amazing effort.
